Arsenal’s first ever Premier League win is official as they beat Southampton 4-1

Arsenal’s historic victory over Southampton was officially recognised as their first ever league win at the Emirates Stadium, and their first league win in the Premier League era.

Arsenal were ahead by two goals at half-time, but Saints kept coming, creating several chances and getting back into the game through the back three of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere.

Alexis Sanchez scored his first goal of the season, and the Gunners went on to win the game 3-1.

Arsenal’s players hugged each other as they left the stadium.

Arsenal captain Santi Cazorla congratulated Arsenal fans on their first win of the year.

Arsenal midfielder Santi Solanke, who has not scored since the first game of the 2016-17 season, was substituted with 10 minutes remaining in the second half.

Solanke was replaced by the younger Alex Iwobi, who had a late penalty appeal waved away.

Solanke was also replaced by Aaron Ramsey in the 80th minute of the game, after he got injured in the opening minutes of the match.

Arsenal did not lose the match but the defeat was not without its positives.

Santi, who missed the match with a knee injury, made a couple of crucial passes in the final stages of the first half to get Arsenal back into it.

Arsenal ended the match in seventh place in the table, with four points from three games, one behind Tottenham Hotspur.
